Ian chose orthodontics as a route when he saw the change it made to peoples’ lives at early stage as a dentist. Ian received his Masters degree from the University of London and the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998. He is registered as a specialist orthodontist with the General Dental Council.
Ian graduated in dentistry from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in 1990 and practiced general dentistry in Farnham, Surrey for five years.He then committed to a three year full time postgraduate orthodontic training at Guy’s Hospital, Mayday University Hospital and East Surrey Hospital. He opened his first Orthodontic Practice in Epsom in 1999, followed by the Guildford practice in 2004.
Ian is a director of Ortho Progress. Ortho Progress facilitates training days for orthodontic staff and practice principals to combine their resources to progress their practices and share common practice ideas. He divides his time between equally between Epsom and Guildford. Read more

Giulio graduated with an Msc in orthodontics through WarwickUniversity in 2012.
Giulio graduated in dentistry from the university of the Witwatersrand South Africa in 2000. He subsequently managed the dental wing of the ‘George Masebe Hospital’, a rural Hospital in the northern province of South Africa.
For a year Giulio treated the underprivileged community in the Northern Province before moving to the UK, where he worked as a general dental practitioner with a special interest in Orthodontics. Giulio worked as an Orthodontic assistant under Dr Ian Grobler for three years in Guildford, after which he became a full time associate in the practices. Read more

Mari joined our orthodontic team in March 2007 and is enjoying the challenges and rewards of working within a specialist practice and particularly working with children.
Mari qualified in dentistry from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in 1983. She then spent time working in general dental practice in Swakopmund, Namibia, before working as an associate in a general dental practice in Stevenage, Herts, UK.
In 1986 she returned to South Africa as a lecturer in prosthetics at the dental faculty of Stellenbosch University. Whilst there she went on to achieve post graduate diplomas in both Prosthodontic Dentistry and had her own practice in Cape Town limited to Paediatric Dentistry.Read more
Angus Pringle, BDS(Hons) Glasgow 2001 MFDS RCSEd, MSc(Lond), MOrth RCSEd, FDS(Orth) RCSEd

Angus qualified with Honours from Glasgow University in 2001 having achieved numerous distinctions, prizes and awards. Angus fulfilled a life-long ambition to become an Orthodontist at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and UCL Eastman Dental Institute. He obtained his MSc in Orthodontics with distinction in 2007 having achieved distinctions in both academic and clinical areas. Angus also achieved the Membership in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007.
He undertook further training to become an Orthodontic Consultant at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and Bristol Dental School achieving the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship in Orthodontics in 2009. He then worked as an Orthodontic Consultant at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester and Worthing Hospital until 2013. Read more
Gillian Woodman – Practice Manager GDC Registration 162532
Gillian is the Practice Manager and knows the practice inside out and has been at the heart of the practice since it opened in 2004. Gillian is a GDC registered dental nurse and maintains her registration by undertaking continual personal development courses as required by the GDC. As the Practice Manager she has expanded her people skills and trained the existing reception team in their roles and together with the Clinical Director oversees the clinical team. Gillian is very proud of the team and endeavors to make your journey through the practice as welcoming and easy as possible. The practice qualified for the BDA Good Practice scheme in 2010 and proudly displays the plaque that was awarded for this esteemed achievement and she strives to meet the requirements for the continued renewal of the annual membership. On a personal level family is a very important part of Gillian’s life especially her young granddaughter and grandson, both who keep her grounded. Her favourite place in the UK is Dedham in Essex, the village is very close to Flatford Mill where John Constable painted The Haywain in 1821, she regularly visits family and friends there, and she also enjoys various social commitments.
Anika Smoothy – Treatment Coordinator
Anika joined our team in November 2011. Prior to this date she worked for 10 years in a medical practice in her home town in Germany. This role included assisting the doctors in some of the patient procedures, laboratory work and administration. Anika moved to England with her husband and joined the Practice in 2011. She initially worked with our admin team to gain a clear understanding of the office routine and has now with great enthusiasm undertaken the role of our Treatment Co-ordinator here in Guildford.
Anika takes care of our new patients by explaining their clinical treatment plans as prescribed by the clinician in more detail and managing their expectations. Her job satisfaction is working in a Team and throughout the day meeting a variety of patients in different age groups daily helping them achieve great treatment outcomes.
In her spare time Anika enjoys reading and spending quality time with her husband, friends and family.
Lauren Smoothy RDN, Dip Orth (Warwick) – Orthodontic Therapist GDC Registration 161075
Lauren joined the practice in 2006; prior to this she had been working in general practice for 6 years. During this time she trained and qualified to be a Dental Care Professional enabling her to be registered with the General Dental Council.
During her time with our practice Lauren has continued her professional development and gained further qualifications in;
• Dental Radiography
• Certificate in Orthodontic Nursing
In 2008 after completing a project case study completion with TOC Lauren achieved Orthodontic Nurse of the Year. Lauren has gone on to study at Warwick University Medical School and has been awarded a Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy. In her spare time Lauren organises fund raising events for the Orthodontic Therapy Charity commission. She enjoys going to the gym, horse riding and socialising with her friends and family.
Lauren, who qualified in 2011, was awarded the prize for the most outstanding Orthodontic Therapist student in her year.
Babsie Grobler, RDN, Dip Orth (Warwick) – Orthodontic Therapist GDC Registration 121088
Babsie has been involved in orthodontics since 1998, and initially she spent time in the administration team at Guildford Orthodontics.
Since 2004, she has trained and qualified to be a Dental Care Professional enabling her to be registered with the General Dental Council. During her time at Guildford Orthodontics, Babsie has continued her professional development and gained further qualifications in:
• Dental radiography
• Certificate in Orthodontic Nursing
In 2011 Babsie went on to study at Warwick University Medical School and has been awarded a Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy. The Practice is very proud of her considerable achievements and this privileged role will enhance our service to patients. Babsie is a busy working Mum with two delightful daughters and enjoys tennis in her spare time.
Babsie, was awarded the prize for the most outstanding Orthodontic Therapist student in 2012.
Hannah Cain – Orthodontic Nurse GDC Registration 122135
Hannah joined the Guildford team in May 2008. Hannah was a Dental Nurse in General Dentistry for 8 years and qualified as an Orthodontic Dental nurse 4 years ago. Hannah achieved her NVQ Level 3 in Oral Health & Dental Nursing, Dental Radiography, and Orthodontic Nursing and more recently has achieved certification to take Dental Impressions. Job satisfaction is from meeting new people and helping patients to achieve a great smile. Her free time is spent with her active sons.

Christina Jones – Orthodontic Nurse GDC Registration 178928
In August 2009, Christina joined the world of orthodontics at our practice. She has been nursing since 2002 with experience in General Dentistry, Endodontics and Implantology. Christina has qualifications in Dental Nursing, Dental Radiography and Orthodontic Nursing.
Christina has been accepted at Warwick University to train as an Orthodontic Therapist and she started her course in August 2013. She continues to enjoy it and is progressing well. Christina enjoys helping patients and seeing the great results that can be achieved after orthodontic treatment.
Zoe St John – Dental Nurse GDC Registration 194639
Zoe joined the Guildford team in September 2012 after working as a general dental nurse for 5 years.
Zoe passed her Dental Radiography Course exam in September, her plan for future personal development is to undertake the dental Impression course and thereafter the Orthodontic Nursing Course.
The rewards of Orthodontics for Zoe is helping patients and seeing their reaction to the difference orthodontic treatment makes to them.
Edit Green – Dental Nurse GDC Registration 200736
In March 2012 Edit joined our practice. She has nursing experience in General Dentistry, and has qualifications in Dental Nursing, Dental Radiography and Dental Impression Taking.
Edit really enjoys Orthodontics and takes great pride and pleasure seeing the end results of a patient’s treatment plan and the impact and changes that this has on them personally.
In her spare time Edit enjoys painting, she is also competent in the skill of Reiki and loves to travel.
